คำอธิบายรายวิชา(ไทย) : แนะนำวัฒนธรรมตะวันตก ศึกษาสำรวจแนวโน้มหลักส่วนใหญ่ในประวัติศาสตร์ ความคิดตะวันตก เริ่มจากประเพณีของชาวฮิบรู กรีกและอารยธรรมละติน จวบจนสมัยฟื้นฟูศิลปวิทยา เลือกลักษณะวัฒนธรรมตะวันออกที่สำคัญ เช่น จีน อินเดีย ตลอดจนอิทธิพลของวัฒนธรรมเหล่านั้นต่อประเทศในเอเชียอาคเนย์ให้เน้นหนักใน ด้านแนวความคิด และวัฒนธรรม แทนการที่จะเน้นหนักในด้านประวัติศาสตร์และโบราณคดี
คำอธิบายรายวิชา(อังกฤษ) : An introduction to great cultures of the West and East. A selective survey of major tendencies in the history of Western thought from Hebrew traditions and the Greek and Latin civilizations through the Renaissance. A selective survey of the maincultural streams of the East, with emphasis on India, China and Thailand. The emphasis is on ideological and cultural aspects rather than chronological.
