Some more advantages and disadvantages of E-learning from my study smile

E-learning is a trend in sharing and exchanging knowledge in the form of digital files through the internet and offline network via electronic and computer devices. It is an alternative way in teaching and learning. However there are some advantages and disadvantages of E-learning as followed.

Liaw (2008) cited Bouhnik and Marcus (2006) four advantages of e-learning are (a) learners are allowed to choose any lessons they want to learn, (b) learners can learn any time, (c) learners are free to ask questions or to show their ideas, and (d)it is easy to get into the course materials. The integration of technology and education has changed the education environment from classroom-based towards e-learning that learners can learn whenever and wherever convenient (Alonso et al., 2005). However there are some disadvantages of e-learning as the cost for setting e-learning is expensive, it is less interaction than face-to-face learning, disable students cannot get reach to e-learning course, content quality may not be suitable and match to the curriculum, and e-learning is not suitable for some kinds of course (Mobbs, 2003). NFSTC (n.d.) also stated some limitations of e-learning as learners computer literacy and access to e-learning courses, contents for e-learning, time and management skills of learners themselves.

E-learning is another alternative in learning. However it needs IT support and equipment which are expensive for some learners. E-learning course providers must consider about the content of the course and the accessibilities of learners before providing the course. Learners must also be responsible for themselves in learning. The integration of ICT and traditional learning is recommended.
