Course Description: The Biostatistics and Research Methodology course offers students the opportunity to apply their knowledge and skills in data analysis. Through practical exercises, students will learn how to perform data analysis using simulated datasets that align with an analysis plan derived from a manuscript. By working with their own generated datasets, students will gain hands-on experience in applying appropriate statistical methods and techniques. This practical approach enables students to enhance their understanding of data analysis processes and strengthens their ability to effectively interpret and report results.

Course Aims: Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:

  • Describe the various components involved in the research process and understand the connections between them.
  • Select an appropriate statistical method based on the type of outcome being investigated.
  • Conduct data analysis using the selected statistical methods.
  • Develop proficiency in utilizing tools for efficient research paper search and review.
  • Evaluate the quality of research articles by establishing the link between study results and conclusions.
  • Identify knowledge gaps and develop research questions for their own studies.
  • Create a comprehensive Statistical Analysis Plan (SAP) in the form of a mock manuscript suitable for journal submission.
  • Conduct data analysis based on an analysis plan derived from a manuscript, utilizing self-generated simulated datasets.
